Dr Majid Kazmi

Director of Research, Innovation, Digital and Commercial for Cancer & Surgery Deputy Medical Director, Guy's & St Thomas NHS Trust

Dr Kazmi qualified from the University of Aberdeen in 1991 with Commendation, he is a member of European group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), International Myeloma Society, Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management and American Society of Haematology (ASH). He has been a consultant since 2001 at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust (GSTT).

He is currently Director of Innovation for Cancer and Surgery at GSTT. He was previously Chief of Cancer Services and Clinical Director for Oncology and Haematology.
He led the development of the £160 million Cancer centre built on the Guy’s Hospital Campus. He is a CQC specialist adviser and has supported the work of NICE in providing expert advice to support technology appraisals in myeloma.

He led on the implementation of a cancer information solution (Mosaiq) which has resulted in a paper lite service for cancer at GSTT and the role out of a single electronic prescribing system for chemotherapy to 3 sovereign trusts (6 hospital sites) in SE London. This delivered a solution that has reduced the administrative burden across the network and improved patient safety (25% reduction in prescribing errors).

Dr Kazmi is seen as an innovator in healthcare. He helped set up the first Trust AI board and appointed the first clinical Cancer AI lead in a UK hospital. Working with colleagues he led the concept design around an AI evaluation Centre in Cancer which has been adopted by the Trust. Some of this thinking helped inform the BSI standards for AI evaluation in healthcare.

He sits on the board of 2 start-up companies and is a clinical advisor to a medium sized Venture Capital Company investing in Life Sciences.
